Massage aftercare: what to do after your session

By Nina · October 10, 2026 · 2 min read

Your session doesn’t end when you get off the table. A little care over the next day helps you get the most out of it.

Drink some water

You may have heard that massage “flushes toxins.” That’s a myth. But staying hydrated is simply good for your muscles and tissues, and many people feel thirsty after a session. A glass or two of water is a nice habit.

Move gently

A short walk or some easy stretching helps you keep the range of motion you just gained. Save hard workouts for the next day if you had deeper work.

Warmth helps

A warm shower or bath can feel great, especially after deep tissue work. Epsom salt is optional; the warmth is what most people notice.

Some soreness can be normal

After deeper work, it’s common to feel a little tender for a day or two, similar to after a good workout. It should ease on its own. If something feels sharp, unusual, or gets worse, call us and check with your doctor.

Notice what changed

Pay attention over the next few days:

  • Is that tight spot still easing up?
  • Are you sleeping better?
  • Does the area feel looser when you move?

Tell us at your next visit. It helps us plan your sessions.
