Your first massage at Isolated Bodywork: what to expect

By Nina · November 7, 2026 · 2 min read

If you’ve never had a professional massage, it’s normal to have a few questions. What do I wear? Do I have to talk? What if the pressure is too much? Here’s how a visit works, start to finish, so you can walk in relaxed.

Before you arrive

When you book online, you’ll fill out a short health form and sign your paperwork ahead of time. That means less clipboard time and more table time. The form asks about things like injuries, medications, allergies, and sensitivities to oils or scents, so your session is safe and personal.

You can also mark areas on the body map: blue for spots that need attention, red for anywhere you’d rather we avoid. It’s one of the most helpful things you can do before your first visit.

When you get here

We’ll start with a quick conversation. What’s bothering you? What do you want to feel like when you leave? Is there anything that’s off-limits? This is your session, and the plan is built around your answers.

Undressing and draping

You undress to your level of comfort. Many people go down to underwear; some prefer to keep more on. Either is completely fine. You’ll be under a sheet the whole time, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. You’ll have privacy while you get on and off the table.

During the session

You don’t have to talk, but you always can. Speak up anytime about:

  • Pressure: more, less, or “that’s perfect”
  • Temperature: too warm or too cool
  • Anything that feels uncomfortable or that you want skipped

Good bodywork is a conversation, even when it’s a quiet one.

Afterward

Take a minute before you get up. Some people feel energized; others feel pleasantly sleepy. Drink some water, move gently, and notice how your body feels over the next day or two.

That’s it. No pressure, no performance, just time set aside for you.
