Speak up! How to communicate during your massage
Meaningful bodywork starts with meaningful communication. Your therapist can feel a lot through their hands, but they can’t read your mind. A few words from you can change a good session into a great one.
It’s always okay to say…
- “Can you go a little lighter / deeper?”
- “That spot is tender, can we ease off?”
- “More time on my shoulders, please.”
- “I’m cold.” (or warm)
- “Please skip my feet / face / stomach.”
- “I’d rather not talk today.”
You will never offend anyone by asking for what you need. Adjusting is part of the job, and we’d much rather know.
Use a simple pressure scale
Some people find it easier to rate pressure from 1 to 10, where 10 is too much. Aim for around a 6 or 7: you can feel the work, but you can still breathe and relax.
Mark it before you arrive
When you book online, use the body map to mark areas that need attention (blue) and areas to avoid (red). Add notes about injuries, surgeries, or sensitivities. Your therapist reviews it before your session starts.
Things we really need to know
Please tell us before your session if:
- You’re pregnant or think you might be
- You’ve had recent surgery, injury, or a new diagnosis
- You’ve started a new medication
- You have allergies or sensitivities to oils, lotions, or scents
You can stop at any time
You’re always in control of your session. If anything feels uncomfortable, physically or otherwise, just say so.
Book a session and tell us how you like it.
